Commence shenanigans!!!
The doors, side windows, rear seat, interior trim, and hatch all can come off so easily it’s kinda scary. One question I have is where does one disconnect the wiring going through the hatch? I don’t want to snip it.
Other than that, the car will gain a roof basket (the one from White Claw Rascue), new tires, semi truck style mirrors, hopefully a set of ATV tires on the side, some RGB lighting, a space heater, and some road sign skid plates. I may also try to source some scooter wind visors, depends on how windy the car is after its surgery.
The T shifter thing also just has to GO.
I’m also somewhat afraid I’ll want to buy a minty Festy after rallying this one...

semi truck style mirrors
I want actual semi truck mirrors. They’d probably be nearly as tall as the door.

Are the auto seatbelts connected to the doors?
![]() 10/18/2019 at 13:01 |

Nope! I think there is a button the doors press that activates the auto belts, but that can be rigged to always be pressed.

Why not wait until AFTER winter to pull the doors and hatch????

In the rallymetro in the before times there are 2 wires for the high center stop light, it became cut and I just put a blue connector back in place. What’s all on the hatch? Just leave enough room to crimp on disconnect connectors.

You know me, I’m a masochist! I plan to drive this baby without doors in snowstorms! So long as the heater keeps the windscreen clear I’m game.

There’s actually one for sale for $300 in Ohio right now. Rust free, only problems are a dent on the left side (could be pulled) , the driver’s door is the wrong color (probably from whatever caused the dent) , and no title. I could fix all of those issues super easily.

I think that you and I might have different definitions of "minty"
![]() 10/18/2019 at 13:58 |

Probably. :) For me, any old vehicle that has no more than surface rust and has problems that are easily repairable count as “minty”. The midwest dissolves everything so we have to lower our standards. lol

It was locally famous a good decade ago, I think its gone to a new home.

Speaking of “minty” old things. I saw these on the local list o’craig and thought of you, especially the last one . They probably don’t even have surface rust on suspension fasteners. I don’t know why folks talk of paying more than a few grand for these kind of old trucks.

Come visit. Fly out, then drive home in a cheap old vehicle with no rust anywhere.

This is how every old car with out-of-state northern plates looks. I’m surprised most Oppo’s even avoid these haha. https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/789685334/overview?aff=share_other

Only 1 97k on that one. I’m routinely impressed with how little rust my Ranger actually had for the miles that were on it. The bed was shot and the front body mounts probably won’t survive another two years , but the rest of it was rock solid. Even the frame was thick.
